Navigation
Hunters often find themselves in unfamiliar territories, whether it's trekking through dense jungles or navigating the labyrinthine tunnels beneath the earth. These situations call for navigation skills to find the right path and avoid getting lost.
Hunters equipped with navigational tools like maps or GPS devices can navigate without any difficulties. However, if such tools aren't available, Hunters can rely on their Awareness attribute to guide them through the unknown.
To navigate using Awareness, a Hunter makes an Awareness check, with the difficulty threshold (DT) set by the Overseer based on the complexity of the environment. If the result of the check is equal to or above the DT, the Hunters successfully navigate through the area. However, on a failed check, the Hunters go off-course, potentially facing unexpected dangers or delays. The Overseer has the discretion to dictate the off-course direction or choose it randomly.
Example Location DTs
Location | DT |
---|---|
Small Town | 10 |
Amazon Rainforest | 15 |
Underwater City Ruins | 20 |
Ancient Labyrinth | 25 |
The Abyssal Depths | 30 |
Overseer: "You find yourself at the edge of a dense, shadowy forest. The pungent scent of wet pine needles fills the air, and moss grows thick on twisted boughs that block out most sunlight. No clear path, and your GPS device shows nothing but static."
Amy: "This reminds me of a haunted forest near my hometown. I think I can navigate us through this. I'll use my awareness to find the best path."
Overseer: "Alright, make an Awareness check."
Amy: "I rolled a 14."
Overseer: "The forest's dense undergrowth and the lack of landmarks make navigation tricky. The DT for this environment is 15. You go off-course and find yourselves deeper in the forest. The shadows grow darker, and the forest's silence is eerie... this forest won't be letting you leave any time soon."
In Obscured, navigation is more than just moving from point A to point B. It's about the journey, the unexpected turns, and the challenges that come with traversing unknown terrains. How your Hunters navigate can drastically affect their adventure, leading them to unexplored territories and undiscovered secrets.
