Rest And Recovery

Adventures can be taxing. Even the bravest Hunters must rest to survive in the world of Obscured. But resting is not just a luxury but a necessity for any successful Hunter. It's during these quiet times that Hunters regain their strength, heal from injuries, replenish their abilities, and stave off fatigue.

A typical rest period in Obscured consists of 8 hours of downtime. This can include up to 2 hours of light activity, such as reading or keeping watch, but must include at least 6 hours of sleep. While sleeping, Hunters are considered unconscious and may be vulnerable to surprise attacks or other events.

After a full rest period, Hunters regain all their lost Hit Points, refresh their spent ability charges, reset their traits, and lose all points of Fatigue. This rejuvenation is essential for Hunters, allowing them to be at their best for the challenges that lie ahead.

However, rest is not always a peaceful endeavor. Hunters might choose to maintain a rotating watch during their rest period to prevent being caught off guard by potential threats. Before resting, the group should establish a watch order.

It's also essential to note that Hunters should rest without their armor and weapons equipped. If they don't, their Fatigue level will set to one, regardless of its level before resting. The discomfort of sleeping in armor or holding a weapon prevents a truly restful sleep. If a resting Hunter is attacked and not warned by a watch, they will miss their first turn in the ensuing combat. Additionally, the Overseer may impose other penalties depending on the specific circumstances of the attack.

Example

Overseer: "You find a safe spot in the old abandoned church to set up camp for the night. Who's on first watch?"

Dave: "I'll take the first watch. I'll wake up John after a couple of hours."

[Some time later]

Overseer: "Suddenly, a group of spectral figures burst through the church's front door. John, you're up for watch and see them coming. The rest of you, startled awake, will miss your first turn."

Amy: "Damn, I guess I'll have to fight without my armor this round... FUN!"
