Legend
In Obscured, the items and equipment your Hunters use can make a real difference in their survival. From the gun they carry, to the armor they wear, and even the unusual gadgets they've acquired along the way, each item has its unique attributes and considerations. In this section, we'll break down the key factors you need to understand about your equipment.
Attribute
Every item, be it a weapon, throwable, or armor, is tied to a particular attribute. For weapons, this attribute not only determines which attribute modifier will influence the weapon's damage, but also impacts the attack modifier (AM) the Hunter adds to their attack rolls. Hence, a weapon requiring high Awareness will prove more potent in the hands of a Hunter with a high Awareness attribute.
Requirement
Certain items come with an attribute requirement. In other words, for a Hunter to utilize the item effectively, their attribute (as listed in the previous section) must meet or exceed this requirement. If the Hunter fails to meet this requirement, weapons will only inflict half damage and attack with disadvantage, while armor will reduce the wearer's speed and HT bonus by half.
Restriction ()
The restriction level of an item reflects the societal and legal perceptions towards it. Keep in mind that these are general guidelines, and context can influence reactions. For example, a civilian pistol might be legal to carry but would be considered illegal on an airplane. Here's the breakdown of restriction categories:
- Humdrum (): Mundane items that blend into everyday life.
- Civilian (): Legal items that may raise eyebrows in certain situations.
- Military (): Restricted to military and law enforcement, illegal for civilians.
- Illegal (): Prohibited items that can incite fear or alarm.
- Exotic (): Strange or unusual items that can draw attention, legality may vary.
Concealability ( CHECK or CROSS )
Concealability indicates whether an item can be hidden on a Hunter's person without any special equipment. However, it's important to remember that even concealable items can be found during a thorough search. Items that are not naturally concealable might still be hidden using suitable containers or by stashing them ahead of time.
Purchase DT ( )
Obtaining certain items can be tricky. While Overseers may allow shops to stock a variety of goods, Hunters seeking a specific item will need to make a purchase check. After ensuring the item is available at their location, the player rolls 2_ON_D10 and adds their charm modifier. If the roll beats the item's purchase DT, it's their lucky day — the item is in stock!
Price ( )
Everything comes with a price, represented in USD for your convenience. However, the actual cost can vary based on circumstances. Items can also be used for barter, offering another way to acquire needed gear.
Weight
Every item has a weight, which will contribute to a Hunter's carrying weight, whether the item is currently equipped or just in the inventory. It's a practical world, after all, and even Hunters have their limits.
