Introduction

In the world of Obscured, the line between reality and the unknown is thin, and sometimes, it shatters. Lurking in these fractures are Horrors – creatures, forces, and entities that defy understanding. They might be twisted aberrations from another dimension, forgotten spirits clinging to our world, or even seemingly ordinary people harboring an unsettling darkness within.

As an Overseer, you are the architect of nightmares, weaving these Horrors into your narrative. Your task is to create monstrosities that challenge Hunters, pushing them to their limits and forcing them to question the very nature of the reality they thought they knew.

Horrors in Obscured can take many forms, from feral creatures of myth to whispered conspiracies pulling the strings of entire cities. Crafting compelling Horrors isn't just about stats and abilities; it's about the stories they tell, the way they gnaw at the edges of sanity, and the lengths Hunters must go to bring them down.

This chapter will be your guide in building these monstrosities. It will walk you through the process of creating Horrors, from defining their stats and abilities to weaving them into narratives that will make your Hunters' blood run cold. Prepare to dive into the shadows and unveil the true face of terror.

Example

Overseer: "As you round the corner, your flashlight beam falls upon a hulking form. Scales glint in the light, slick and iridescent. Slowly, the creature turns, fixing you with eyes that glow an eerie green. It's like nothing you've seen before, a twisted amalgamation of reptile and something... else."

David: "I knew it! I told you guys it was going to be a giant lizard!"

Amy: "That's no lizard, David. That's... I don't know what that is."

John: "Close enough, eat lead aligator boy!"
